DualShockers Weekend Wrap-Up July 31st Edition

Another week in the books here at DualShockers. It was a pretty slow week, but i like to call July the calm before the storm as we quickly approach the fall release schedule. We had great write-ups from the team, and a new trailer from Infinity Ward. Not too much in the way of Reviews, but that will change come next week when you can expect reviews for BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger,  G.I Joe: The Rise of Cobra, Fat Princess, The Watchmen: The End is Nigh Complete, Gears of War: All Fronts Collection and more.

Readers you have helped make this second week 10 times better than the first, we want to thank you for your readership and would like you to keep checking in with us. Enjoy a recap of this week’s best.

Ninja Gaiden 2 Uses Viral Boobs

Everyone loves hacking and slashing, but what do people love more than that? Boobs! Of course genius, what happens when you put a pair of fake breasts on a wall? People will walk by and gently grab them.

I want to personally shake the hands of the marketing team over at Tecmo. Even though this has nothing to do with ninjas or Ninja Gaiden everyone will remember that this was a great viral marketing campaign for the Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 game.

Well played Team Ninja!

DualShockers is Looking For a Few Good Writers

DualShockers is on the look out for a few good writers. We are an up and coming gaming news/enthusiast blog and we are looking to add to our stacked arsenal of writers. As of right now because the site is still very new, this is a volunteer/freelance work so there is no compensation at first. In 8 months or so, as the site begins to generate revenue the editors will get together to discuss options and writer compensation. What you will receive in the meantime is experience and exposure in the video game industry as we are currently setting ourselves up to attend all major industry trade shows (i.e. GDC, E32010, TGS 2010).

Marvel Super Hero Squad in Action

Marvel Super Hero Squad is Marvel Ultimate Alliance meets super cute action figures. This is the first look at this game in action and it looks to combine the calssic elements of Marvel with great coop action. I like the ability to play coop with friends or switch it up and make it into a 4 player versus brawl. This may be a game that makes me dust off my Wii and get some gaming in with my wife. This game looks accessible by any skill level of gamer, but fun enough to keep all gamers interested. I am very excited about this game, especially since I actually bought the figures as well. Yes I bought the figures, don’t judge me. Playing as a miniature Silver Surfer is worth it alone.

Wet Still On Track For September Release

With most games lately doing the 2010 shuffle, Bethesda Softworks Announced to day that their “highly-stylized shooter ” Wet, starring Eliza Dushku (yum) was still on track for a September release. Originally, Wet was supposed to be published by Activision/Blizzard but then it was dropped like a bad habit. Since then the title has found a new home at the house that Fallout built, Bethesda. At first it was slated for a  Tues. September 8th release, and wound up getting bumped back to the 18th. Hey at least it didn’t get dropped again altogether.

DJ Hero Renegade Edition – A Whopping $199

Don’t have enough plastic peripherals laying around? Are your pockets dripping of green paper with the faces of old dead white men on them? Fear not my friends because Activision is here to save the day by with their Renegade Edition DJ Hero Bundle. When the official Pre-E3 announcement of DJ Hero was made, I took one look at the turntable and thought to myself “Ok, not bad, probably like 90 bucks with the game, pretty reasonable.” Then they would later announce that the turntable would be price at $119 and I was immediately floored. And now we have this insane collectors edition at $199. Some one should tell these people about the recession we’re in. Well at least the trim is different than the cheapo original and it says “Renegade” so people know exactly how much you just spent on a plastic turntable.

Dissidia Final Fantasy U.S. Preview

If you are a fan of JRPG’s, SquareEnix, and you have a pulse then odds are that you are all over Final Fantasy Dissidia like flies on shit. For those of you who don’t know Dissidia is a JRPG fanboy’s wet dream. If you’re the type to stir up ludicrous “who would win?” conversations with your friends involving matchups that would never happen, not even in a million years then this game is for you. Ever wanted to know who was more bad ass, Sephiroth from FFVII or Jecht from FFX? Now you can find out for yourself. If you think this game is just a mindless brawler, think again. It may not be turn based but it has something that clearly comes from Final Fantasy; two words. Limit. Break. Dissidia has it. There is a story mode, which from the looks of it seems to share similarities with Final Fantasy Tactics and you can even use Gil to level up your character and abilities. With a full cast of fighters from throughout the history of the Final Fantasy Series I’m sure everyone will have a favorite. Dissidia is just a month away and looks more promising than ever. Just feast your eyes on this preview and you’ll see what I mean.

Review: The King of Fighters XII (PS3, Xbox 360)

Anyone who is an avid fan of fighters will, undoubtedly, know the name The King of Fighters – one of the first fighting games to introduce 3-on-3 style matches. Unlike most traditional fighting games (such as Street Fighter), players are literally forced to learn the fighting styles, special moves, and supers, of more than just one character. And if you’re one of those players that enjoy the challenge of learning the ins-and-outs of more than one fighter, you’d definitely have a blast with the older series (KOF 90 and KOF 2002 – which consisted of more than 40+ characters). Because of its extensive character list, the King of Fighters series usually required tons of commitment. Of course, this only applies to those of us who are serious players.

Harvest Moon: Frantic Farming Sprouting for August

For some weird reason, I’ve always loved the Harvest Moon games.  There’s just something relaxing about planting potatoes, watering your vegetation, going around town trying to help folks, and beating your animals – especially the dog – with a sickle.  If you’re a fan of the Harvest Moon series, and you own a DS, you’ll be happy to know that Natsume Inc. – the developers/publishers – announced today that Harvest Moon: Frantic Farming, the new installment to the Harvest Moon franchise, has entered manufacturing and will be ready for pickin’ this coming month of August.

Response To The “1st Quarter 2010″ Flu Going Around…

There’s a new pandemic making it’s rounds in the video game industry and it has nothing to do with swine or flu. This “1st Quarter 2010 Delay” bug going around has been taking the wind out of many gamer’s sails. Everyone’s crying about Take 2’s delays of Bioshock 2, Mafia II, and Red Dead Redemption. Even stealth and action fans will have to wait a bit longer for the latest from Sam Fischer in Splinter Cell. Gamers are crying foul yet no one realizes what is actually going on, and the truth is this: no one wants to deal with having to launch any where near Modern Warfare 2’s release date. It’s a fact. Even Sony’s new found poster child Nathan Drake in Uncharted 2, was pushed up to avoid any head to head with Infinity Ward’s behemoth. Naughty Dog and even Bungie  with their next installment in the Halo Series, Halo 3:ODST coming in September can say what they want but as great and as popular as their respective franchises are, they don’t want to be anywhere near 9/10/11. People as of late have been jumping on the let’s abuse MW2’s 600p resolution bandwagon, but I can guarantee that those same people will find themselves camping out on launch night. I’m sure that these are just a few of the shifts in release dates we will see, with more on the way as November draws closer. Only time will tell.
