DarkSiders Sequels Confirmed By Joe Madureira

In a recent interview with comic book artist, and co-founder of Vigil Games, Joe Madureira, he revealed to us that sequels are being planned for their upcoming title Darksiders. In the interview, Madureira also expressed plans for future Darksiders games to incorporate four-player co-op using the four horsemen of the apocalypse, and shutting down any rumors going around of the upcoming title having any multiplayer options.

Obviously it’s coming, man. If we get to make a sequel we’re definitely gonna push that. I mean, honestly, we wanted to have all four playable in the first one; it was just way too big, we were biting off a lot. We’re a small studio, you know, just starting up. Four player co-op with the four horsemen, come on, obviously, we gotta do it at some point… Laughs and there is no multiplayer. It’s just a single-player adventure.

For you PC fans wondering if this game is headed to your platform, Mad states that “a PC version will drop at some point,” stating that a demo might be released a couple of months after the initial console release January 2010. So it looks like everyone but the Wii is getting a piece of Darksiders pie.

This is Vigil Games’ first game and, after playing it, can say that it definitely is pretty well-rounded in the areas that it takes hold of. A lot of people will compare it to God of War and Devil May Cry in terms of gameplay and style, but it has its own unique perks that does set it aside from these gargantuan titles. After getting some hand-on time with this game, I will definitely say that it should pursue the road of sequels. I mean, what better way to introduce and play as these horsemen than to give them, each, their own individual game. Wouldn’t be fair that War [the protagonist] got one, right?

the first Darksiders was a very refreshing and original game in its own sense. It had many different things from past Zelda games and others like Portal and God of War. I thoroughly enjoyed this game and aniticipate the sequel. Multiplayer would be a very fun installment but I also like the ‘1 vs 1 million’ feel of the first Darksiders. Keep up the good work and great story line.

When I went to get this game I was told it was a God of War knock off… well I disagree I liked this game better than any of the God of War games and played them on 2-3 different consoles. There needs to be a sequel. If no sequel would be a catastophe on parallel with a swift kick in the boys!

well in my own personal opinion i think it would be cool if Vigil Games made 3 other single player games (the next as Death, then Fury, then Strife), and then top it all of in a final game playing as all four horsemen and being able to hot-swap between them to use different moves, abilities, and items. However the end of Darksiders showed the other 3 Horsemen coming to Earth to help War, so if a game is done on Death Fury and Strife as a single player, then i guess Vigil would have to make prequels, but then that would be contradicting the story of Darksiders… idk. unless Vigil had the Horsemen land on different parts of the world and the games would be focused on them all making their way back to each other fighting the dregs of hell, the White City, and by the looks of it, the Council, as they move to reunite. then once all 4 are reunited they go all out ass kicking on anyone who gets in their way. that would be sweet and i would buy and pwn at all 5 games. cuz i already pwn at Darksiders. possible future story right there. i give myself a thumbs up. comment and call it stupid if u want. its ok.

      Darksiders Fan,

Thanks for checking out DualShockers! If you didn’t know already, a Darksiders sequel was given the green light by THQ, as confirmed by Core Games VP Danny Bilson at a THQ analyst meeting at E3. How the story picks up, or which of the horsemen will partake in the sequel due to release in 2012, isn’t known yet. However, as stated above in the interview, Madureira DID say that Vigil does have plans for more games – possibly extending the games past a trilogy. Characters and stories were drafted to take place beyond Darksiders when the game was in development. And with the fanbase that the game has generated, I can tell you that THQ is not letting this one go.

I’m an avid fan of the game. Loved it, personally. From what you said, with regards to the other three horsemen landing on different parts of the world and making their way back to reunite, that sounds like a definitely possibility, and like something I’m sure Vigil will sort of implement. I highly doubt that, off the bat, they’ll reunite all of the horsemen – it would make the story less dramatic and adventurous. I’m definitely looking forward to what Vigil has under their sleeves. Best believe that we will dig more into this and try to squeeze some news from the developers.

After reading this i think they should make it like …. the 4 different horseman are at different parts of the world or w/e but there fighting against everything and i think that it should be like youll play a few levels as war and then a few as death etc gradualy bringin there story lines together …. and like making it a huge final boss that youll have all four of them needed to win against right at the end :) i dunno like death and war meet up nd the other 2 do … the other 2 shud take out heaven with strategy etc and then secondsly war and death should take out hell using Fighting and full brute force … and finaly all four meet up on the council using Cunning strategy and brute force to take down the final part …. in all honesty if it was a built up ending like that i wud adore the game ! :) what ya think people ?
