Can Infinity Ward Save MW2 with DLC?

We were all prepared for what was being called not the next big thing, but the thing. After Trey-Arch had finished up and brought out Call of Duty World at War, we all knew it was Infinity Ward’s turn again and the huge undertaking it would take to top Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Modern Warfare is one of the greatest shooters of all time and has sold millions of units since it’s launch. It was the defining game of the Call of Duty series. Question was, what was Infinity Ward going to do to top all of that? And could they?
About a year before release, the rumors started rolling out. Where in time would the game go? Vietnam? No not yet, that one is coming later this year from Trey-arch. Surely not go back to WWII? No, that was not going to happen either. So the obvious choice was to take what had made Modern Warfare such a mega hit and make it even better. Make it a sequel and blow away the world. Or so they thought.
Modern Warfare 2 was released to a fury of media coverage that the gaming world had never seen. TV coverage, commercials, spots on all the late night TV shows, and even a spot during the World Series. Everyone was talking about it and everybody was ready to buy this already perfect game by some peoples standards. The night of release, lines stretched for miles and Infinity Ward and Activision held a huge celebration in New York City and LA. It was indeed a day for royalty, only it wasn’t. 5 million units out the door in one day. When it was all said and done, Modern Warfare 2 made more money than many Hollywood movies would. It would break numerous records and even crashed the PlayStation Network, not to mention break an Xbox Live record with over 3 million gamers on at the same time.
Gamers were playing Modern Warfare 2 at a break neck pace. Some claimed they had played days straight with hardly a break. And oh the praises were rolling in. “Greatest game of all time”. “Nothing has ever come close”. Sound familiar? It does to me too. I have to admit, the first time I picked up my new MW2 controller from Madcatz, I was ready to reign fire down on all comers. And then it all came crashing down on our heads. And Infinity Ward’s.
Glitches began showing up less than two weeks into game play and have been a plague to gamers and Infinity Ward ever since. Glitches that made playing almost impossible for a fair gamer. Of course most were fixed with a simple update. Others, like the javilin glitch would be a thorn in all of our sides for quite awhile. Here is a list of glitches that have been found since the games release in November:

You ask yourself, how can a game that was supposed to be one of the best ever made have so many problems. It almost looks like the hackers were preparing for launch day well before Infinity Ward. Now that the glitches are under control for now, we have to ask ourselves is it really under control? Only time will tell in that department, but with the impending release of the first Modern Warfare 2 DLC coming this Spring, we sure hope we don’t see the same types of problems. If we do, then will Modern Warfare 2 be remembered for the great game play and times it has given us, or will it be remembered as a game that was thought to be the best, only to have been beaten to the punch by those who corrupted it?
No official word has been released on the DLC being released in the coming months. A tweet by Robert Boling aka FourZeroTwo said “Lots of #MW2 DLC related meetings today, which is a good thing. Means we’re oh so close to nailing down a date and locking down details!!”. Sounds promising and it has fans and gamers excited about what may be around the corner. DLC kept the original Modern Warfare and World at War going, plus all of the maps were very popular with gamers. Perhaps some new missions and multi-player boards focusing on current events. Or maybe go back in time to Mogadishu or Fallujah?
Whatever the outcome or decisions that are made by Infinity Ward, the clock is ticking on how the franchise is going to be looked at. And with games like Battlefield Bad Company 2 and Medal of Honor looking to take back some of the luster they lost, Infinity Ward needs to really hit a home run. When the flagship game of your company takes a hit, its time to fire back. DualShockers will keep its eyes open for the new DLC and look for a review coming soon. Happy gaming!

Infinity Ward and Activision, if you guys dont get things right, you’ll turn out like the Halo Series and fade away. Call of Duty series is like the new Halo with Super Human powers in which I can see throw walls and lung 100yrds, plus heartbeat(which is not realistic and so on). Dont start out something that you guys dont know nothing about. DICE and EA’s Battlefield series is going to Dominate….that’s all for now

You guys at Infinite Ward made a great experience with MW2 but it sliped out of your hand like a wet soap and every good things come to an end. Bad Company 2 is the next big thing. I’ve just return out my MW2 game to get that new game.

In my eyes COD 4 will be the greatest FPS ever..Its just that simple, bad company 2 is complete trash and it wont be as good. MW2 can be good but bootleggers had the game 1 month before general release. This is finally an article which I can completely agree with.
The list of glitches and hacks havent been fully covered above, the speed ranked lobby’s, god mod, aim assist for headshots etc..
Look all over youtube if you dont believe me.
IW couldnt live up to the hype of this game, because they tried to re-invent COD4. This game is way toooo different and lost its original charm. IW never listen to the community, unlike treyarch who do.

If Treyarch listens to their community, then they suck at it. CoD 5 may not have had as many problems, but it was straight up BORING. I played that for as long as I could, even got some of the best scores I’ve ever gotten in a cod game, and yet I wasn’t happy with it. I can count the few things CoD 5 got right on 1 hand. anyway, now that I am done dissing WaW, Mw2 isn’t that bad in my opinion. I personally have about 17 days of playtime and have not run across any of the above glitches. I have run into the care package run glitch a few times but other then that, nothing. This is all just extremely over-exaggerated in my opinion.

How about the fact it is still on the same game engine as Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and it basically has only DLC-worthy additions versus Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (maps, perks, weapons, and a few patches that should have been free updates). How does it grab you that they charged you $60 for DLC?

Modern Warfare 2 really is a great game. It’s frantic game play however has been done just as well before (Modern Warfare 1) and now it seems FPS gamers are seeking the “next big thing”. After playing the BF: BC2 demo I believe we’ve found it. While not perfect in any way, and obviously lacking the visual polish of IW’s title, I believe the tactical nature and slower pace will win over a few million gamers this year. I’ll be picking up my copy at midnight

yup and this is just the glitches..
what about the awful servers and bad hit detection(like theres a constantly delay for one team) aka getting shot at and you pop down behind something or round a corner and THEN you die because in the killcam thin air is actually part of you -_-
and what about the super weak snipers and there terrible hip fire accuracy(even with steady aim) direct shots to the head/chest and you get a stupid hit marker or you have fmj and shot a guy through a wall and get a hitmarker.. or you try to no-scope when they are pressed against you barrell and it completely missess..
or the fcat that thermal/hearbeat sensors are completely unfair, i mean yes dont get me wrong they can be countered but you cant expect EVERYONE to put on cold blooded/ninja just to counter 2 guys.. i mean you have the chance to get UAV why allow them to have a permanent one? and as for thermal.. sniping is supposed to be a skill even the best of snipers will miss a guy beside a bushy area and then some noob lying on a rock see’s all of them from a mile away -_-
and what about commando considering it reaches like 6798789 miles away lol and even round corners when pressed at the right time..
and lightweight is another un-fair perk, take s&d for instance you spawn you’ve literally been active for 10 seconds and theres already people at your location
and i wont even get into killstreaks
theres so much wrong with this game..
a great game ruined in my opinion

This is all blown out of proportion. I have around 19 days of game play and I have only seen a small amount of these glitches. And all that I have seen have been patched. Get over yourselves. Just because you suck at the game doesn’t mean it’s a bad game and that you have to complain about it. If you like it, play it. If you don’t like it, don’t play it. It’s as simple as that. On a seperate note, I was shocked at the illiteracy of some of the comments on here, which then and there looses your credibility.

Well no, its not as simple as that – because lots of people BOUGHT the game expecting a quality polished AAA title and instead got a bug ridden glitchfest.
Are you saying everyone should just write off the cost of the game as “I dont like it so I shan’t play it” or maybe we should make some noise and get them to fix the game that we supported with our hard earned cash ?
The game has issues, People are annoyed by these issues, and its the responsibility of the developers to fix these issues. Quit being such a tool with your pompous “If you don’t like it, don’t play it.” statements

90% of all FFA matches are now dominated by boosters. Probably more, since some only boost to 10-13 kills, get the killstreaks, then go play as if they were some bad-ass skilled killer.
There’s no way IW put tactical insertion in the game not knowing it would just be exploited and ruin a good thing.
The COD franchise was supposed to be about realistic battle experience, not Star Trek sci-fi. Heartbeat sensors? Commando perk?
I expect the next COD will have phasers and cloaking devices. I want IW to know I will not buy another title with their name on it.

I have played about 2 days in playtime and not 1 glitch has happened to me. Maybe a few people online make the glitches happen to people they play with. sure you can get out of the playing area but that is not considered a glitch if you can do it with any game.

I just hope that black ops will be a good game. i have loved the COD series. if black ops messes up, i will NEVER buy another game that says INFINITY WARD (unless somehow they make a really good hit in 5 years that has no glitches).

Black Ops is not made by IW. So its definetly going to be a better game and to the guys who say they’ve played 19 days and not ran across glitches/modding. I call BS. Just last night i joined into three games that were full of BS. 1 A chopper gunner was called in. i thought it was no big deal untill it started hammering the entire map with rockets instead of its machine gun. It literally was shooting pred missles. 2 Aim hacks and no its not a lack of skill. Wathched the kill cam guy took me and my entire team out with a M14 sniper and all headshots as we spawned on wasteland and he couldnt even see us through the shrubs in the middle. 3. Infinite Predators and a spaz shotty that can kill a mile away. Im not saying i hate Mw2 i loved it, i just wish they would fix it. Thats all im sayin .
