Modern Warfare 2 Worth $40 Trade-In @ GameStop

Hey everybody. I know a lot of you are thinking, why would I trade in my beloved Modern Warfare 2? I also know a lot of you are thinking, I can still get $40 back for this piece of trash? The answer is maybe you do, maybe you do not, but yes you can still get a whopping $40 back for Modern Warfare 2!  Read more for the full scoop.

Normally, I do not trade in my games. When the team here at DualShockers discuss game trade-ins, we all have our own style of doing things. While Chad Awkerman is a niche Role Playing Game collector, he has been expanding his horizons in the gaming realm this generation and found titles he simply could not hold on to.  Our Editor-in-Chief Yaris Gutierrez has an impressive library of games this gen and has never traded in a single game. He even kept X-Blades!

The RPG craving that tempted me to pick up Modern Warfare 2 and head to Gamestop today was Final Fantasy XIII.  I now have the game paid in full by only trading in two games, thanks to the limited time +50% bonus going on with trade-ins at GameStop. Don’t be fooled into the pre-order program right now, check to see which one would earn you the most money first.  My total off the price of Final Fantasy XIII would have only been $40 trade-in credit normally but thanks to this offer it was over $60, it even covered my taxes and got me a 39 cents on debit. This bonus will be going on until 3/15/10 but be aware that GameStop does change their trade-in values at any time without warning. If you were thinking about trading this game in, now is the time! Run for the Hills!

If you are the hardcore collector type, I can certainly see the point in retaining your copy of any said game.  In this case, Modern Warfare 2 was the game that drove me to make my first trade-in this generation.  With the Activision and Infinity Ward fiasco going on I don’t know what to think about the future of Call of Duty but I do know that there will be plenty of games in the franchise to come.

I called and asked and they told me that Modern Warfare 2 was worth$32 with the 50% bonus…. how’d you get more? This was weeks ago

You say you got “over $60″ and that the trade-ins even covered your taxes. Store credit is actually non-taxable. So you only really needed to put enough down to cover the base cost of the game, $59.99. You’ll get the difference back when you pick the game up, so no worries there. Just a minor detail that stood out to me since I’m actually an assistant manager at a store here in Kentucky (for now anyway lol).

This doesn’t explain all the promotions you used though. Just says +50% trade in.

Can you spend a bit more time on your ‘articles’?

I used no other promotions. They do not allow the combination of this offer with any other promotions guys. I simply gave two games, one was Modern Warfare 2 which earned me $40 and the other was a recent game that only was worth $24.

These were both traded in together using the +50% trade in and NOT using the Pre-order 40$ off promotion. This is why I was able to pay the game off in full with two games instead of still owe them 20$.

@Matt Gant : Hello friend, Actually I already took care of the tax with the store credit according to my receipt and the clerk. I don’t know how it works where you are but like I said in the article I also got 39 cents on a debit card, so I do not owe them tax and they do not owe me anything further. Not sure why this really matters though to be honest.

Thanks for clarifying, didn’t mean to come off rudely so I apologize that I did.

Did you use an EDGE card too by the way?

No worries Examiner. I did not use an EDGE card actually.

I traded Modern Warfare 2 in at Gamestop, and they gave me 24 cents, some lint, and they slapped me. What should I do now??

If you had an Edge card, you get an extra 10%! I know because I traded in my Borderlands and saw I got another 10% with the 50%, so 60% in total. Now I want to trade in MW2 too. Hmm. Maybe towards GOW3!

I bought it with a $20 credit back through amazon then got $40 on the trade in, I essentially got to play mw2 for free n it wasn’t worth it.

I pity the whole iw situation right now. activision bought iw for $5 million and iw made them 3 billion and activision treats them like caged monkeys, wont pay them for what they earned and then fire them. I hope the rest of iw walks out, let activision run cod in the ground like they did tony hawk and guitar hero. Whats activision got left? They will fall harder then ea.

Boycott is on, activision is dead to me.

A gamestop employee has told me that recently quite a few games trade in value have actually increased which would make this weeks 50% trade-in credit a good deal. However upon scanning the used game shelves it looks to me like this was just a well orchastrated sales ploy as many titles seemed to have undergone marked price cuts. Just look at all the cheap games (Contact and Ninja Town on DS -$9.99, etc)
