Resident Evil Supports PS Move, But Not For You
Jon Ireson | Jul 06, 2010 | Comments 10
With PlayStation Move on the horizon, gamers everywhere have been hearing Sony proclaim from the mountain tops how they have so much support for the motion-sensing peripheral said to be “a new platform” by the gaming giant. I got to play on the PS Move at E3 2010 and, though I did enjoy myself and believe the controller to be a truly great idea, I did have some issues with one of the announcements made during the Sony Press Conference. The way it went down left a sour taste in my mouth, and I feel like I need to speak up about this. If you are a Capcom “fan-boy” I advise you do not continue past this point without covering your eyes.
If you are one of the people, like myself, who picked up Resident Evil 5 when it launched, you know that the game had a great lasting effect on most gamers who touched it. Soon after the release of Resident Evil 5, the Versus DLC pack brought the ability to play online with up to three of your friends in team-based combat or free-for-all death-matches. After already achieving platinum status on this great game in the first 10 days of its release (check my trophies list), I was compelled to pick up this DLC pack and thoroughly enjoyed it. Although, it was certainly not the best online multi-player I have ever played, it was fun and served its purpose well. Then the other DLC packs came out which everyone has their own opinions about, as well.
But what really got me up in arms about this issue was a little thing called PS Move Support. This was announced to be implemented via free title update to Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition, but what about good old Resident Evil 5 regular edition? This may be a misleading marketing campaign meant to garner more sales for RE5: Gold, and support for the regular edition may indeed come, as well. However, I get the strong feeling Capcom actually expects me to buy RE5: Gold and that’s not happening!
Why would I throw the money I spent on DLC for RE5 into the toilet by picking up a disc that already includes all of the DLC, not to mention the losses I’ll be taking getting the original disc off of my hands. If Capcom goes through with no support for the original RE5, then what they are doing here is disrespectful to their most loyal of fans who picked up the game day one (or at least in the year of its release!). Add this in with the new Japan PS Move bundle from Capcom and Sony, which will include the PS Eye, PS Move, and Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition; enough to play RE5: Gold on Move right? Wrong, you will require a PS Navigation controller in order to play this game if you want to experience it properly. This bundle will save you money, but will also be pointless if you don’t have about $29.99 (or the equivalent in Yen) more hanging around.
Capcom, I love you, but this is just non-sense. Dead Space 2 is looking better and better every day. Watch your back.

I think you have interpreted this completely wrong.
Nowhere do Capcom say that they wont support the standard edition via a paid DLC patch. They simply state that the patch will be free to the owners of the Gold Edition.
This is just the same as any other “GOTY” edition game, there is nothing sinister about it at all. Gold edition customers will get their value from the extra content on the disk, the rest of us will have to pay for the extra’s.

I already paid for the extras. So far the PS Move support has not been announced in any shape or form for the regular edition.
I’m not buying RE5: Gold Edition for this and the fact they haven’t announced the regular edition getting PS Move support is mis-leading even if they do ever release it because it is sneaky marketing that will have fans planning on buying RE5: Gold when they already own this game just to experience it on PS Move.

But its not been said that they wont offer a patch and tbh it would be bizarre for them not to. There is far more money to be made from patching the copies already sold since only a hardcore minority would rebuy the game for the gold edition.
Like i said i think your interpreting it wrong. Once they outright state that they will not add Move support to the original version then you hava a legitimate beef, until then you are just getting your knickers in a twist over nothing.

I don’t agree.
I still think this is misleading like I just said.
Even if they support it later.
Also, If they were intending to support it then why didn’t they say so?
And I never said this makes sense, I even say it is “non-sense” in my article.

I would wait till you hear more. If Capcom doesn’t patch the game for everyone then we should call them out for it but right now, months before Move is released publishing stories like this with little information and just speculation is wasting your readers time.

I definitely agree that time will tell the end to this story but I feel like either way right now it is something that would benefit consumers to know.
Imagine if you went to pick up a used copy of RE5 regular edition expecting to play PS Move only to find out it may or may not support it.
In that situation I think it would certainly be a factor preferred in consideration before said purchase rather than after it.

Sony has mentioned that the demo disc that is handed out with Move items in Japan will contain the RE Move patch, allowing those without Internet access to install it.

I totally agree : Capcom has to specify NOW if the standard edition of RE5 will support or not the PS Move !!! (and if the patch will be free or not …)

LOL I never got the game, but now if I do I not only get it cheap, but I can screw over all of the morons who supported such a poorly made game.

Thanks for the feedback questionMark but I have to say you are being pretty selfish with this comment. Apparently you have never bought a game on day one or have a lack of compassion for your fellow gamer. This game is a great game especially for its time. I would like to see you show me a better Survival Horror game built entirely from the ground up for co-op. It is one of the best co-op experiences I’ve ever played and one of the highest quality, least glitchy multi-platform games I’ve ever seen.
