Sony Takes Off the Gloves, Unleashes Comparison Chart

DualShockers’ Deputy Editor Joel Taveras and Editor-In-Chief Yaris Gutierrez were in attendance at the Sony Media Holiday Preview Event in NYC to see the PS Move first hand and the entertainment giant had a lot to say. Pulling off the gloves for a change of pace in their discussion of motion gaming overall Sony has shared some interesting points with the world at tonight’s event including a comprehensive comparison chart that ought to have gamers more educated about what they are buying this holiday season. Some of the main points you will find interesting in this chart may jump out at you as information you may already know such as the lack for the Kinect to support rechargeable batteries, feedback, buttons, and wireless connection to the console, however some of the comparisons between the Kinect, Nintendo Wii, and PlayStation Move being made by Sony may surprise you; take a look for yourself by clicking on the image to zoom in.

Move is better by a long shot since it supports a lot of real games like Heavy Rain, Socom, Killzone 3, Sorcerer or Ruse, unlike Kinect which only plays Wii like casual shovelware.
3rd parties already said they will support Move but not Kinect (for exemple Ruse developer)

PS Move is nothing like the Wii, only the similarity of holding a controller, and why not say Kinect is designed to be hands free, like an Eyetoy clone?
And PS Move has real Minority Report style interface, Tom Cruise had buttons, and a light to move things
lol and PS3 is capable of hands free gaming, through the Playstation Eye camera, like Kung-Fu Live, so the only relation to Hannah Montana buddy, is PS Move gives you the Best of Both Worlds (Kinect and Wii).

From that chart, Kinect seems a million times better, hands free and the pad is confirmed to be used as secondary controller, so the chart has some huge lies too, since you dont need a Nav in Kinect, you can use the pad, like on PS3 too

If you think two players only is a problem, then you must plan to buy 3 or 4 Move controllers. And unless you have 4 dual-shocks 2 or 3 sub controllers. How many Euros is it for 4 Move controllers, two sub controllers and an PSEye? Is it more than 150 Euros?

For all you youngsters, Kinect is not much more than an Sony Eye Toy. Sure some HD and full body tracking are added but the same type of games will be created. We have seen the videos online etc etc. The games will be fun for a short time but be forgotten until the ‘kiddies’ come to visit. Great tech, but it’s been done before, and for only $30 – $50 (Eye Toy price). Besides, gamers game so they don’t have to be physical. Kinect / Sony Eye Toy are meant for children who do not know any better.

Kinect do not need:
1. buttons but can be added later if called for in later games down the road.
2.no need for batteries
3.no need for Secondary controller,Kinect recongizes.
4.built in charger? Xbox 360 can charge other usb items
5.No wireless, Xbox 360 supports wireless controllers
6.Kinect has nothing to do with blue ray or hd.

1. Where and how will buttons be added to a motion sensing device?
2. Nope, no batteries. But it uses resources from the 360 after its internal memory was removed during design.
3. Agreed. But Kinect isn’t 1:1 – we’ve played it. It’s isn’t as precise as Microsoft makes it out to be.
4. Xbox CAN charge USB items. But out of the box, it can’t charge its own controller without you having to purchase (keyword) a charge pack.
5. Yep, Xbox 360 *does* support wireless controllers. So do the Wii and the PS3.
6. In this generation, Kinect should have everything to do with HD. The comparison chart is showing with console has better value for its price. To deny that the PS3 doesn’t, is honestly a biased fanboy statement.
I’m pretty sure Sony wasn’t trying to discredit the Kinect. They were, instead, showing you how much more valuable *they* feel their console is given its price when compared to other consoles. Realistically, for what it offers, Sony’s product does offer more bang for your buck, considering what the throw in there. Value is a matter of opinion, of course. But when you’re comparing what each product has and weigh in what you’re in fact receiving with what you pay, the PlayStation 3 takes the cake, pretty much.

Any light source can be used in much the same way Sony uses their controller it can even detect pitch by calculating the direction of the light… there are ways to do these things… here’s to moving forward instead of sideways

Since Kinect can be used with the controller it has buttons. And having batteries built in is not a bonus feature. It adds expense since you will need Sony to change them or you will have to buy a new controller(probably cheaper). Re-chargeable batteries never live up to their specs and will eventually need to be replaced.

Good article but I dont know what sonys so worried about. We have fantastic games. Dont know why there has to be scared tacktics. Secondary Controller? Rechargeable batteries for Natal? Buttons? Sorry but this article fails? Why sound so desperate we all know Natal doesn’t need a ’secondary controller”rechargeable batteries”buttons’. If anything this article does the opposite and makes move look outdated and old teck. Please stick to making great games and dont worry about such cheap articles as this. Not every is this nieve. Not every 5yr old is going to want kinect for kintecimals and not every 5yr old is going to want move for Sorcery. Both are lame unless your 5yrs old. I have confidence Sony will blast with great quality games.

Let me answer all these comparisons on this chart:
Motion Detection: They have it right.
Buttons: Why is this even a category; Microsoft PROMOTES no buttons, so what is the point in this.
Feedback: They have it right. They forgot to add that your console gives you feed back also on Kinect.(Example: Waving to sign-in that’s more than audio feedback)
Built-in Rechargeable Batteries: Doesn’t even apply to Microsoft; Again, another pointless category.
Camera: Overall Good; Wii doesn’t need it though. I have to point out though that the Microsoft Kinect also has a mic in camera. Almost as if though Sony is trying to leave a detail out, like you need a headset for Kinect.
Secondary Controller: Only a good comparison for Move and Wii.
Game Resolutions: Casual gamers could care less for graphics(Obviously because of the Wii). HD is good for the hardcore and those who are interested in better looking games…for a price.
Since they have pointless categories like buttons, They should add “Dashboard Interaction”. It would look like this: Playstion Move: No(Only for games) Nintendo Wii: Yes Microsoft Kinect: Yes

Sh** I should have read that ,I need to make a correction: Playstation Move: No Nintendo Wii: NO*(My Correction) Microsoft Kinect: Yes. What I should have said was Motion Technology Interaction. YOU making a gesture to sign in, Using YOUR voice to tell the console what to do, pausing movies and music with YOUR hands and YOUR voice. Not only you making the interactions, but your Camera being able to sign you in with out you doing anything, your camera following your every movement even if you go way to the left or way to the right. I want to see the Move do that. If your curious I own a customized 500 GB launch PS3 because I put the Hardrive in myself and I still enjoy backward compatability and SD card slots(plus slim PS looks ugly, I go glossy baby!), I’m lucky I guess. I own a Black Wii, a custom PC I built, and a New Xbox 360. I’m currently playind Darkside Chronicles on my Wii. Crysis on my PC. Alan Wake on 360. Nothing on PS3 because I’m addicted to every exclusive I own and I beat them to quickly.(Was playing Demon Souls though) But I do have a massive Blu-Ray collection. Just bought the Potter series for my girlfriend.

One more point, Kinect moves in 3D space without a controller, Eye needs the Move contoller to do that. Almost as if though Sony again is trying to say just because we have it all we can do everything they do. Trust me, drop the Move controllers and try to move diagnolly, forward and backwards. Eye will feel lost since you only could move side ti side with it.

The PlayStation Eye does not necessarily need Move for Z-Axis, sure without Move it isn’t as good, but the Eye is capable of sensing the movement.

i don’t see where this comparison chart really shows anything more than that the Xbox and PS3 are better than the Wii. it really paints the Xbox and PS3 as being basically very similiar, with the exception that the motion control/second controller stuff, as Xbox doesn’t require a second controller or “buttons”.
one thing i noticed that i wouldn’t really consider a good thing for the PS3 are the built-in rechargeable batteries for it’s controllers.. rechargeable batteries eventually go bad, too, and won’t hold a charge. being built-in means the controller basically has to be completely replaced, as opposed to the much cheaper method of just replacing the batteries.
but again, i don’t see how this chart from Sony knocks Microsoft and it’s Xbox.. only the Wii, but we already knew it sucked compared to it’s competition.

WTF! This is literally the stupidest thing I’ve seen in years. Kinect has no buttons? That’s news to me since microsoft has shown people using Kinect and controllers. Also of course kinect doesn’t have all that second controller crap because… once again… YOU CAN USE IT WITH THE ORIGINAL CONTROLLERS!

Ok, seriously guys, from someone who has both consoles and a PC this is insane.
The question we’ll never agree which is better cos different people have differant ideas of ‘better’.
Sonys tech has less lag, a slightly smaller price tag, feedback you can feel and is likely to have more ‘hardcore’ games. However it also requires a controler, needs recharging and costs more if you wanna play with more than one person.
Its for hardcore gamers who want accuracy, better graphics and more option to interact.
Microsoft offer hands free interaction, no need to recharge, and local multiplayer from the get-go. This said, it is slightly slower hand to screen, costs a bit more, will never support more than two players, removes your freedom to move around if you want buttons and might not have some hardcore games the PS3 gets.
Its mid range, interactive but not real time, casual and hardcore but dedicated to neither, social but only to a point and offers choice between freedom of movement and input options.
once again:
Sony = Hardcore
Microsoft = Family
(Wii = Gamecube with sonys 6-axis controller strapped on.)
neither is bad! just differant!
