Keiji Inafune Comments On Devil May Cry 5

devil-may-cry-4-12a

It has been more than two and a half years since the release of Devil May Cry 4 on the PS3 and Xbox 360. Since that time, we have heard absolutely nothing on the next entry in this storied franchise. Hardly confirming it, head of R&D and designer for Capcom said to Spanish gaming site 3D Juegos:

Devil May Cry 5 is a game that, when started development, this will change a lot in relation to the above. The reason is that, despite the franchise has some very loyal followers, their sales are not particularly high, especially overseas. For this reason, it is likely that in the fifth chapter will incorporate certain “Western touch” to make it more attractive to American and European players.

So it’s nice to know that we’ll be getting the game eventually right? I suppose, but no further details have been revealed about the title. Let’s cross our fingers and hope that the game makes an appearance  at the Tokyo Game Show.

Shinji Mikami Underwhelmed by Motion Controls

vanquish1

Recently we posted an article that lambasted both the PS Move and MS Kinect as silly motion control fads that were a waste of time and money. It would appear that gaming great Shinji Mikami, creator of Resident Evil and director of the upcoming TPS Vanquish totally agrees with that:

“I don’t think motion controls will be in the gaming mainstream in the next ten years. When the technology gets to the point where you can just flick your eyeballs around and the computer can pick it up, you won’t need a controller anymore. Obviously it’s going to take a while to get there.”

I don’t see how he could have called them a gimmick any kinder. Perhaps we dont have to get there at all Mikami-san. Long live the controller. Vanquish comes out for the PS3 and Xbox 360 on October 19th. Currently (thankfully) there is no news of motion control support for the title. Check out our impressions of the game, here.

Vanquish Demo Impressions

vanquish-screen

There is something about Platinum Games titles that I just can’t put a finger on. They have a certain je ne sais quoi or swagger if you will. Whether you’re slaying angel fiends or entrenched deeply within space, each of their games possesses a unique and distinct flair that simply oozes quality. In this aspect, Vanquish appears to be no different from its older brothers and sisters.

From the very start menu it boasts a very distinct, very immersive ambience. This only increases as you begin to play through the demo. Playing the game somehow makes you feel so cool and stylish. The visuals are absolutely superb. You’re going to make your first stop at the tutorial though, where all the controls are explained in a very simple yet effective manner. The controls really are wonderful I might add.

A Proposition for Sony: Worldwide PlayStation Store

PSN

One of the most appreciated aspects of Sony’s consoles this generation – and this applies to both the PS3 and the PSP – is that, when it comes to games, they are “region free”. What does this mean? For those of you who don’t know, various forms of media are typically locked into one region, and can only be played on devices that originate in that region. If you look on the front and/or back of any DVD or BluRay you purchase in North America, you’ll typically see a “Region 1” somewhere on it. This means that it can only be played in DVD or BluRay players native to “Region 1”, which is basically all of North America.

MAG 2.0 Beta Impressions

MAG 2-1024x574

When I wrote the editorial Why We Need Mag 2… Already it was coming from the perspective of a clan leader, a shooter fan of many years, and an avid supporter of innovative ideas in gaming. When MAG first released my expectations were enormous. Perhaps this was a problem generated by the fact that the title was being announced and talked about so early, or maybe just the overall concept was too broad at the time to fully satisfy what my vivid imagination had cooked up for it. Either way, the game was released and the 8 man squad system really let me down in a major way. The game began to feel as Deputy Editor Joel Taveras dubbed it ‘the 60$ Beta’ since almost nothing had changed since its beta testing period. Overall it just felt overwhelmingly light on content as if something major was missing, some sort of gigantic missed opportunity waiting to be seen.

Recently a brand new MAG beta was released on the PlayStation Store for those who own the MAG disc. Not only does this bring forth the PlayStation Move support which has been promised but also a number of changes are previewed for free which will be coming for the full title in the near future. This includes new maps, game-modes, features, as well as general overhauls to the existing title in question. I am happy to report that after putting some time in with the beta for what is essentially MAG 2.0 I am impressed, excited, and much more satisfied by what is being put forth from Zipper Interactive towards their new, 256 man, first person shooter, intellectual property. Read on for a breakdown on what you’ll experience in the new beta and my thoughts on what works and what doesn’t as well as the timing of all of these updates.

WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2011 First Impressions

svr11logo2

For the past couple of years, fans of WWE haven’t been seeing eye-to-eye with the previous releases of THQ’s Smackdown vs. Raw series – I myself am one of those fans. Clunky controls, redundant issues like the targeting system, and a few other thorns on the side that made the game’s entertainment factor inconsistent were the culprits that rendered the game’s overall value mediocre. When you’ve played unforgettable classics like Wresltemania 2000 and No Mercy for the Nintendo 64, it’s pretty hard to find something nowadays that fair against it, considering the gargantuan leap in technology that consoles have undergone. While many of us have perpetuated the thought and anticipation of something more concise (with regards to both look and feel) in the WWE franchise, we haven’t really been introduced to anything, recently, that has given us that “wow” factor. All that, however, has changed with THQ’s upcoming Smackdown vs. Raw 2011 – a game that THQ has clearly molded from the wants and needs of the WWE community.

Dead Rising 2: Case Zero Impressions

dead rising 2 case zero1
Are you curious about picking up the new Dead Rising 2: Case Zero prologue, exclusively on Xbox Live? Well, if you are at all wondering what is in store for you with this title, look no further because I have some gameplay footage for you.

I sat down with fellow DualShocker Jon Ireson and we discussed a few of the things to expect from this awesome zombie-bashing title from Capcom, such as weapons, points system and simply just how fun this title was, and of course we also had to poke a little fun at each other as well.

Although, Dead Rising 2: Case Zero was made exclusively to Xbox 360, those who are on the PlayStation 3 and Windows PC will be able to take the reigns as Chuck Greene in Dead Rising 2 when it hits store shelves later in the month.

Take a look at the break for the footage of Dead Rising 2: Case Zero.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Wager Matches Trailer Released

Call-of-Duty-Black-Ops-Multiplayer-RevealThe multi-player reveal for Call of Duty: Black Ops has landed and it’s ridiculous. The new menu is looking balla-riffic. The video opens up with David Vonderhaar (Design Director at Treyarch) giving us an overview of the all-new Wager Matches while destroying some poor saps with a new rocket launcher. The concept of the Wager Match modes is that you want to come in the top 3 players and if you do COD Points ahoy matey! COD Points are what is used to unlock weapons, if you can’t hang you can’t do your thang.

One in the Chamber is another game mode revealed where everybody starts out with one pistol, one bullet, and every kill you get gains you a new bullet. If you miss your shot, the only thing left is melee. Each player also only has three lives! The intense competition that will result will be sure to bring players beyond the already high level of cursing and enjoyment.

Sticks and Stones will deliver yet another untraditional spin on the Call of Duty franchise where crossbows, ballistic knives, and tomahawks. Tomahawks ‘bankrupt’ players, and you won’t want that type of humiliation and loss on your head, which just takes cutting people up to a whole new level.

Gun Game is just playing with fire, no more specialization and repetitive cheesiness with this mode! Players start out with the pistol and as they get kills they will cycle through weapons one at a time. If you can’t handle every weapon out there you will need to step your game up for these matches! If you are stabbed though, back to the pistol you go noob!

Sharp Shooter, another Wager Mode where all players get the same random weapon until a timer changes things up. You must all duke it out with nothing but the same weapon be it mini-gun, sniper rifle, or one of the game’s many rocket launchers. Kills earn you perks, and tons of kills get you multipliers for your points income.

Hit the break for this riveting video that will surely make a believer out of even the least excited Call of Duty fan right here and now, Black Ops is ready to take you by surprise this November 9th. The amount of explosives seen are insane, and it doesn’t end here, more details about the new game modes were revealed that definitely deliver on some serious ‘WOW’ factor and will crush pre-conceived notions of COD: Black Ops multi-player.

MAG Players Can Now Purchase Extra Character Slots

MAG-Massive-Action-Game

Apparently, MAG players must form an allegiance to one of three different factions when they first begin the game. They must remain within this faction, never getting the chance to enjoy the gaming experience of either of the other two for the remainder of their time with it.

Well not anymore. Players now retain the option to purchase up to two additional character slots for $1 each. This slot is good for a whole month before you’ll need to pay another $1 dollar to renew it. It’s kind of like an additional character in an MMO, only cheaper.

From now on players can partake in the practices of all three of MAG’s factions. Now there’s no reason not to dabble in all the game has to offer, unless of course you owe a strong allegiance to any of the three factions, but I’m certain no one feels this way.
