Over the past few months, Niantic has been trialling a range of different evolution methods in Pokemon GO.

Rather than the standard procedure of using Candies to evolve a Pokemon, players have been required to complete a variety of different tasks in order to spark the evolution.

While it's been a few months since the most recent special evolution method, the introduction of Inkay means another new one is afoot.

So, to help you get ahead of the curve, here is how to evolve Inkay into Malamar in Pokemon GO's Season of Mischief.

Which Pokemon Currently Require Special Evolution Methods?

While many Pokemon require special items to be evolved, including Seadra, Porygon and Onix, many others require players to set them as their Buddy complete special tasks.

You can find all of those Pokemon below:

  • Eevee -> Espeon - Walk 10km and evolve during the day
  • Eevee -> Umbreon - Walk 10km and evolve at night
  • Eevee -> Sylveon - Earn 70 hearts
  • Feebass -> Milotic - Walk 20km
  • Mime Jr -> Mr Mime - Walk 15km
  • Bonsly -> Sudowoodo - Walk 15km

How to Evolve Inkay into Malamar in Pokemon GO

Inkay joins the exclusive list of Pokemon above with a special evolution method and this one is arguably the most creative.

In the Pokemon games on the Nintendo DS, players were required to flip their console upside down to evolve Inkay into Malamar and Niantic has continued this tradition into Pokemon GO.

Once you have earned 50 Inkay Candies, you will be required to flip your phone upside down in order to evolve it into Malamar!
