Since its inception 25 years ago (yes, 25 years!!) Game Freak and The Pokemon Company have come up with some really inventive requirements that need to be met for certain Pokemon to evolve.

It started in Blue and Red with certain Pokemon, including Haunter and Machoke, only evolving when traded and the methods have only got more interesting from there.

While Niantic has had a harder time with implementing these evolutions, due to the way Pokemon GO generally works, it seems like they're starting to push the boundaries further and further.

One of the new Pokemon added to the game as part of the brand new Luminous Legends X event is Swirlix, which does indeed require a special method of evolution - here's how to evolve Swirlix into Slurpuff in Pokemon GO.

Like its counterpart Spritzee, Swirlix had a special evolution method.

The two Pokemon's requirements were very similar and revolved around a very specific item. While Spritzee needed a "Sachet" to evolve, Swirlix needed the "Whipped Dream" item.

Once found and given to Swirlix for safekeeping, players could trade the Pokemon, thus triggering its evolution.

Of course, like the Sachet, the Whipped Dream item isn't in Pokemon GO and therefore can't be used to evolve Swirlix.

Instead, as Swirlix is a food-inspired Pokemon, Niantic has used the next best thing, Treats.

As first spotted over on the fantastic The Silph Road subreddit, Swirlix should be made the players buddy Pokemon and fed a total of 25 treats.

Following this, providing the player has 50 Candies, which shouldn't be a problem with the increased rate of Swirlix, players will be able to select the evolve option. It's as simple as that.
