Modern Warfare 2 Becomes the Best Selling Game in British History
Saying that Modern Warfare 2 was a big game has just become an understatement. According to Chart-track , the game has become the bestselling video game title in the history of UK game releases.
While sales numbers are not approximate, the game achieved this marveling feat in only about ten months. What’s more, the game has only spent three of the past forty-one weeks outside of the top ten sales charts.
Talk about big. The previous record holder was Dr. Kawashima, a brain training game for the Nintendo DS. You can bet that we’ll hear something on specific numbers from Activision sometime soon; they just love to gloat. Also, the previous record holder before Dr.Kawashima was Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

As my author bio at the top of the page lists, I mentioned that not only am I a gamer, but I’m also a musician as well. I’m a vocalist by nature, but I also dabble in other instruments, such as the piano, guitar and bass guitar. But, in no way, shape or form do I consider myself great, hence the wording “dabble.”
Games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero allow players to take part in a performance of popular songs by playing controllers that are modeled after musical instruments. Over the years, players were really just able to shred out with their plastic guitar’s out, but now we are able to play lead guitar, bass guitar, drums and sing.
I honestly feel that these games teach you the fundamentals of playing music when playing on expert. Of course, if you are not there now, you will get there soon, and I’ll include some tips for you to be able to achieve that goal by the end of this editorial.

Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions Hands-On Impressions
As you all may already know, Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions is a game developed by Beenox that takes place in four different Spider-Man universes. These four universes include the Amazing, Noir, 2099 and Ultimate universe. They are all based on the comic book series of each respective universe, and having four different worlds is almost like having four different games in one. I got a chance to sit down and play the 2099 and Ultimate universe, and I would like to share with you all my experience playing Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions.

Like most of the writers that I spoke to who attended the recent New York City Activision media day, I too was a bit hesitant when it was time to check out the latest entry to the Call of Duty franchise. It was nothing personal against Treyarch, but the previous title by the now defunct Infinity Ward team left somewhat of a bad taste in my mouth. And it wasn’t even about all the hacking that was plaguing the online play; it was because of a story that was so convoluted even Michael Bay would have difficulty understanding it. Thankfully, Treyarch is not Infinity Ward and they’re not trying to be. With Black Ops, they’re just going to do what they always do and that is make a solid game, not just a multiplayer shooter with a tacked-on campaign.

A few weeks back we were invited to an event in New York City where we would finally get the chance to get up close and personal with Treyarch and Activision’s upcoming shooter that you may have heard of. It was Call of Duty: Black Ops… and it was awesome. However, everything we saw was under lock and key until August 18th due to embargo. Well my friends, that day is today. While you can still expect a full impressions post up shortly (like tomorrow) we figure why not take the time to get to know Treyarch Community Manager, Josh “JD_2020″ Olin and learn what to expect from Black Ops before it consumes your life and your online friends list this November. For those of you worried about the online component and cheaters that plagued the launch of Modern Warfare 2 last year, you will definitely not want to miss this.

Views: 110Blizzard is Awarded $88 Million in Private Server Law Suit
Private servers are a big no-no most of the time, so those who use them tend to keep things on the down low. Unfortunately for one person, Blizzard happened to find out that they were running private servers for World of Warcraft. A little background, first. Back in October 2009, Blizzard filed suit against Scapegaming and its owner, Alyson Reeves. She was not only running private WoW servers, but she was using micro-transactions on the servers, thus making a profit from Blizzard’s hard work. This, my friends, is copyright infringement, no matter how you slice it.
It seems a judge agreed with Blizzard, and ordered Scapegaming to pay an amount that would make any normal person cringe – a total of roughly $88,000,000. This includes $85.5 million in statutory damages, $3 million in inappropriate profits and, of course, a nominal fee for the attorneys Blizzard had to hire. There may be appeals from Reeves, but, like I mentioned, this is a pretty clear-cut case of copyright infringement, and it likely to have any appeals overturned.
What did we learn from this, folks? Besides not to mess with Blizzard and/or Activision, we learned that trying to make a profit off of someone else’s hard (copyrighted) work is a bad thing. Don’t do it, no matter how much you want to. I would imagine this case just might put the fear of god, er, Blizzard, into many private server operator’s hearts.
Views: 151Independent Release of Limited Edition Fable III Controller Shows Respect for Cash-Strapped Gamers
No, that’s not a skin.
As we previously reported, on October 5 Microsoft will be releasing their Limited Edition Fable III wireless controller. Being debuted 3 weeks before Fable III hits store shelves, there has been no word yet from Microsoft or Lionhead if this controller will be released in any deluxe package with the game itself.
With the massive influx of limited edition game releases packaging exclusive but otherwise useless swag (Halo, Call of Duty, GoldenEye, and the list is only getting longer), Microsoft is taking a unique approach to getting cash-strapped gamers to throw in a few extra coins for unnecessary yet fantastically attractive accessories. Practically speaking, this approach seems to actually be a fairer and more respectful way to entice gamers.
While devoted fans will pick up Fable III regardless, its truly gracious for Microsoft to give loyalists the chance to purchase what they can, when they can. It’s a terrible feeling to not be able to pick up these kind of great extras simply because it couldn’t be afforded at the same time as the intended purchase of the game itself. No gamer should be made to choose between holding out to buy a limited edition release while their friends enjoy it now, buying the game alone so that they could eat, or buying the limited edition and simply not eating.
