Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition, Not Very Golden

Shipping today is Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition. We know it may be buried under all the other games of interest this week, but if you haven’t tried Resident Evil 5, now is a good time you do. It’s just too bad Capcom couldn’t cut you all a better deal.

Nintendo Downloads Bring Fantasy Games Back

Last week we told the readers Nintendo’s digital distribution system is getting heavy attention in the month of March. This week’s theme is clearly Fantasy with the upcoming release of Final Fantasy IV, renamed Final Fantasy II back in the Super Nintendo days, to the Wii’s virtual console is a great way to kick off another week for Wii download gamers. Read more for all the WiiWare and DSiWare details.

Resident Evil 5: Desperate Escape Review

With multiple downloadable packs releasing for the title in the month of March, Desperate Escape is the second major Resident Evil 5 DLC pack to arrive on Xbox 360 and PS3. Capcom released the pack on March 3 and March 4, respectively. Like the first, this pack contains an hour long chapter with two characters for the Mercenaries Reunion mode. The pack costs $5 (400 Microsoft Points), and I guess the big question you all have is, “is it worth it?”

Fret Nice Available on PSN + XBL

Fret Nice is a new downloadable platformer with musical influences.  The manifestation of Mario style gameplay with these well-lit renders feels something like an Adult Swim television cartoon turned game, although this is one actually geared to family crowds as well.  What makes Fret Nice stand out,

Shutter Island Game Released, 2D Click-fest Anyone?

Shutter Island is a box office movie from Martin Scorsese starring Leonardo DiCaprio.  While many people may be looking forward to it, the game is a 2D “hidden object adventure” game similar to the likes of Myst and other 43-floppy diskette set games from the early 90s.  While the game has seemingly good graphics for its genre, some argue its genre is one that should probably no longer exist.  In Shutter Island you will do things like click the environment, have discussions, and complete math problems portrayed as mini-games.

This is a casual game meant for casual gamers.  It is released on casual gaming sites such as BigFish Games and sells for $6.99 with a free one hour demo available to try.  The graphics look well drawn, and the atmosphere and sound design indeed creepy and intriguing.  The storyline even sounds a bit interesting.  Leo’s character, Teddy Daniels, is on an island housing an insane asylum where the locked up have disappeared.

A few minutes of game play footage and an hour with the demo should give you enough time to judge for yourself what you think about the game.  It seems like Merscom games is just cashing in on casual gamers who happen to watch movies.  Also, for some reason the game could not be ported to older PCs very well as the download page on BigFish Games will warn you.  Truly surprising since its only a point and click adventure!  I’m all for downloadable games, so if this game is your type of thing then by all means enjoy.  For anyone who feels this is a poor adaption of a movie to a game, please take a look and let us know what you think this game is lacking.

Battlefield 1943 On Sale

The Xbox Live Arcade deal of the weeks seem to be getting better and better. This week, it’s EA’s Battlefield 1943 that’s taking a $5 price cut. The price has been slashed from 1200 Microsoft Points ($15) to 800 Microsoft Points ($10). I think I may go broke at this rate. I just recently renewed my Gold subscription and the $50 is well worth it. If you’re a gamer, it pays for itself in a matter of ten deal of the week downloads. Can’t wait to see what next week’s will be.
