Square-Enix Shows Off Kingdom Hearts: Re:Coded Screens
Square-Enix, by way of Famitsu, showed off quite a big helping of screens from their upcoming DS Kingdom Hearts venture – Kingdom Hearts: Re:Coded. While some things may look familiar, some may throw franchise fans for a loop – especially the sight of what appears to be a turn-based battle of some sort. Is this just one part of the game or is this how part or all of the main battle system will play out? At this point, it’s anyone’s guess, but if you need something Kingdom Hearts related to tide you over until next week’s release of Birth By Sleep, hit the break and check out the screens!
Views: 114Golden Sun: Dark Dawn – Say What?
We knew a new Golden Sun game was coming, but we didn’t exactly know it was coming this soon. Nintendo dropped a bomb on us today – along with the announcement that they would be dropping the price of two DSi models, they let us know that Golden Sun: Dark Dawn will be releasing for the DS on November 29, 2010.
Golden Sun: Dark Dawn takes place 30 years after the first two Golden Sun games, introducing us to some new faces and a newly changed world. Naturally, the quest that players will undergo here takes them from humble beginnings on a journey to save the world. I haven’t heard that one before, have you?
Needless to say, a good portion of the game will focus on what is being called Djinn, or spirits that give their owner powerful abilities. There are over 70 different Djinn within the game to collect and use to your advantage throughout various story segments. They can be used to help you anywhere from battle to completing puzzles to destroying obstacles.
So, RPG fans have one more reason to celebrate this fall, especially fans of the original Golden Sun titles, which has definitely built a cult following over the years.
Views: 133Nintendo DSi Prices Are Going Down
Starting September 12th, the price for Nintendo DSi and DSi XL will be dropping $20.00 respectively. That puts the regular Nintendo DSi at 149.99 and the Nintendo DSi XL at $169.99.
“We know shoppers want to get the maximum value out of every dollar they spend,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “Our new Nintendo DSi prices make it easier than ever for consumers to access the tremendous variety of games, applications and social tools on the Nintendo DSi and Nintendo DSi XL systems.”
Unfortunately, the Nintendo DS lite will still remain $129.99. I think it is interesting to note that a system that has been out for almost 6 years, no matter how much it has been “upgraded,” launched at $149.99 and will still sell well at that price. It is a true testament to how successful the Nintendo DS systems have been for Nintendo.
Views: 134Okamidem Demo Hits Japan’s Nintendo Channel
Okamiden might seem like a familiar word. That’s because it contains Okami in there – a game that was adored by the PlayStation 2 community during its run. Now, we’re being introduced to Okamiden; a game that takes place nine months after the events of Okami, centering around the children of previous characters.
Capcom, the nice folks that they are, has decided to distribute a demo of the upcoming DS game via the Wii Nintendo Channel in Japan next month. The demo, which will be available from September 8 through October 5 on the Wii, will also be distributed via “DS Station” download kiosks throughout Japan from September 9 through October 6. McDonald’s customers will be more than happy to hear that from September 10 through October 7, the game will be made available through Nintendo Zone connections. Now you can enjoy a greasy, cholesterol-infested Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese with a tub of soda and a side of yummy fries all while downloading and playing some Okamiden. You Japanese people are so spoiled.
No plans have been mentioned yet of the demo coming to North American before the game’s release. When we get word on this bewildering issue, we’ll make sure to let you guys know.

Naturally, side quests can be everything from the easy delivery quest to more challenging affairs, but they all tend to reward you with some fancy stuffs! Views: 375Radiant Historia Receives its First Trailer
We’ve seen some screens of Atlus’ new RPG for the Nintendo DS, but haven’t seen any game play or, really, much anything else. That all changes today, as we’re presented with the first trailer for the title, which shows off some of the characters and describes the story (albeit in Japanese). It also rotates through many shots of the game later on in the video. So, take a peek and see if it tickles your fancy. It seems to me to be kind of a cross between Chrono Trigger (with the time travel element) and Radiata Stories (developed by the same team). The trailer is presented after the break for your viewing pleasure.
Views: 98Super Scribblenauts Wallpaper is Scrumptiously Spectacular
GamesCom is this week, and everyone’s doing it – they release some fancy new assets for their upcoming titles. In some cases they’re just your standard screens or videos that are slightly different than ones that came before. In the case of Super Scribblenauts, Warner Bros. is tossing this slick wallpaper image our way, which features the rather eclectic cast from the game. Super Scribblenauts will hit store shelves for the Nintendo DS on October 12th, less than two months away. The first Scribblenauts title was a unique, quirky, yet fun time, so this one should be even bigger and better. Some would say, more super. If that is even possible. I guess we’ll find out in October.
Views: 131These New Radiant Historia Screens Are…Tiny
Atlus’ upcoming time-traveling DS RPG Radiant Historia got some fancy new screens today. Just like the DS screen, these are rather…small. Too small for my liking, but hey, if you’re interested in the title you’re going to like what you get, right?
The screens after the break show off a couple of the characters, some dialog and some battle screens. To be honest, they fall short of awing me at the moment, but they are just a few screens, so let’s not pass judgement just yet. I like the little sprites, at least!
Views: 140Nintendo Downloads: This Week’s ‘Amazing’ Releases
Another week and we’re blessed with the abundantly rich lineup of Nintendo releases for both the Wii and the DSi. A lot of what’s on the list might be considered shovelware to some [erherm] me [/eherm], but there are some disfigured people out there who probably enjoy every single drop of what Nintendo dishes out every week. No quarrels with them – they’re children, or mentally incapable of learning to count past twenty, so we put these out week-to-week to accommodate their tastes, and to provide bewildered parents with options aside from the constantly promoted shooter which depicts blood and gore. Ugh – we don’t want your kids witnessing such egregious visuals.
So to relish and nourish your child’s mind before they turn to teenagers and join the hardcore crowd in playing M-rated games, we have provided you with a list of goodies that you, your child, or Corky from “Life Goes On” will definitely enjoy. You can check the list after the jump.

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies Review
Dragon Quest is such a long-standing and beloved franchise, which makes reviewing the latest title both easy and difficult, at the same time. My first RPG experience was with the original Dragon Warrior (it’s title in the U.S. way back in the day), so there are many aspects to these games that still ring nostalgic in my mind. But, at the same time, the franchise has some very old hold-overs that are still around from the early days and I find it hard to understand why they’re still around in this day and age. Those things by no means make this a horrible game, because they are franchise staples, for all intents and purposes. On the other hand, if I was a developer making an RPG today, I don’t know if I would think those things would translate well to a modern audience, especially one that is a bit jaded on the whole JRPG genre in general.
Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies is the first time the franchise has released a brand new, numbered title on a handheld platform. The previous game in the series was on the PS2, and I loved it…well, except for the fact that it had many of the same hold-overs as this new game does. I’ll get to talking about those later on in the review. As always, I like delving into the story and characters first, because to me, that will define every minute of an RPG.

Wondering what the upcoming RPG Etrian Odyssey III’s battle system will look / play like on the Nintendo DS when it drops this September? Well this video has arrived from Atlus to answer that very question and show you what you can expect when trooping into battle in the title that resembles traditional role playing battle systems while bringing a beautiful art style to Nintendo’s Dual Screen system. Don’t forget to pre-order this one if you are anticipating it as you will receive a full color bonus art book for doing so (shown in the video). Hit the break for the clip and be on the lookout for Etrian Odyssey III: The Drowned City releasing September 21st, 2010.
Views: 738Master Two Worlds With Fractured Soul
After releasing it little more than twenty four hours ago, N3V’s trailer for their title, Fractured Soul, has received over 13,500 views and a slew of positive feed back in the comments section. Fractured Soul is a 2D platformer under development for the Nintendo DS that makes full use of both screens in a new and interesting way. Each screen represents a different world that the player can shift between on the fly. This creates situations in one world that you would not be able to get through without using the second world and vice versa. So all you DS owners, check out the trailer below the break and see if this game is something that you might be interested in.
