Mother Furious Her Son Received Porn Through Xbox Live

xbox-live

In recent news, a young boy, the age of eleven, received inappropriate content from a yet undisclosed character on Microsoft’s Xbox Live service. The mother of the boy, a Ms. Garcia, contacted Xbox Live regarding the matter and shortly thereafter contacted the police. She then filed a complaint.

In outraged mother fashion she gathered that the blame should fall on Microsoft’s Live service. She then proceeded to contact San Antonio’s News Channel 9 about the matter, saying:

“When they are playing against their friends, it’s a controlled environment, But when they join a party, it can be someone in Japan, Australia, anywhere in the world.”

The common gamer knows immediately that the concerned parent could have prevented this had she known enough about the console. She will no doubt learn very soon (if she hasn’t already) about the parental controls that were put in place specifically to cover MS’s rear end on this kind of the thing. Because when your son is eleven, this kind of thing should concern you….I mean it is the internet.

E3 2010: Xbox 360 Slim Propietary HDD

New-Xbox-360In a big announcement at E3 today we saw the new Xbox 360 Slim looking all shiny and black coming with wireless N, 250 Gb HDD and a much smaller case. It is available now for all those gamers looking for new hardware but in a look behind the scenes Aaron Greenberg showed how the HDD worked. The HDD on the new system is completely different than the previous iterations and is not a normal laptop HDD that can be easily removed via a bay in the back of the system. Aaron also showed the interface for the Kinect on the back of the system.

What does this mean for gamers? You will not be able to switch out your HDD easily and upgrade to a 1 Tb drive or bigger without buying it directly from Microsoft. The big HDD is cool but it is a bit of a shame that they went the propietary route and did not leave it as a normal laptop HDD like the Playstation 3.

We will be trying to get more specs and hands on with it shortly so stay tuned for more info.

Pachter Confirms Hulu for Xbox 360

hulu-logo

Before  the live coverage of Microsoft’s Press Conference this morning on GameTrailers.com, Michael Pachter let one slip. Before the Press Conference even started, Michael Pachter during a conversation with Geoff Keighley confirmed Hulu for Xbox 360. Those of you that were eagerly awaiting this news can now sit tight and wait for Hulu to hit your Xbox 360. Does this mean a possible alternative to cable TV for gamers? I think so.

Lets see what else gets announced now! Stay tuned.

Wondering Where All the Gaming News Is?

Tumbleweed Large

If you’re a frequent reader of this site, throughout this week you’re probably thinking to yourself “what gives” or “where the hell is all of the gaming news?” You probably think we’re the laziest fraks (not a typo but a word Chad taught me) on the planet. And while that is partly true, as we are lazy bastards that fit the traditional gamer stereotype, the bigger reason behind this is because there really isn’t any news going on. Want to know why? Read on to find out!

Weekend Wrapup of May 16

timthumbphp1

First off, we offer our apologies for any inconvenience the delay in the Weekend Wrap up may have caused our readers. We normally like to provide this service on Sundays but this week we are bringing it to you on a Monday. This week was another exciting one as we were bombarded by trailers and developer walk-through videos from upcoming heavy hitters like Red Dead Redemption, LittleBigPlanet 2, Split/Second, and Fable III. Four more solid reviews were released here at DualShockers and the team even managed to avoid all of the god awful titles out there this week. Our Editor-in-Chief and long-time, competitive Halo: Combat Evolved player Yaris Gutierrez gave his impressions and then some on Halo: Reach based on his time in the beta.

Senior Contributing Editor Chad Awkerman gave his raw uncensored thoughts on Bioware and their latest headline scandal (*cough cough* publicity stunt?) involving insults being thrown at a certain RPG most gamers love. Beyond this the team engaged in hot debate and discussion over the Nintendo VS Apple feud that is brewing, based on the comments being made back and forth between the two consumer electronics giants, in our latest ShockCast Episode which you can listen to below. Enjoy the following highlights of the past week after the break.

ShockCast 14: Nintendo Needs To Bow Down To Apple, Should All Games Have RPG Elements?, Reader Feedback and Questions Answered, LittleBigPlanet 2 Announced, Steam on Mac, and more.

The Sims is Now a Decade Old

Want to feel older than you already do today? Then it’s my pleasure to inform you that EA’s the Sims series has just turn 10 years old. Sit back and take that all in for a second, and like me, just try to think to yourself: where did that time go? The idea of the Sims (gibberish speaking families of avatars in which you can live vicariously through, and dictate their every move) is crazy enough. And of someone told me that it would have lasted this long when it originally launched I would have thought they were out of their damn minds but here we are now.

In its 10 years of existence the game has turned itself into an industry power house. It has even rivaled sales numbers of the highest grossing motion pictures of all time. It has earned over 2.5 Billion dollars in revenue. It is available in 60 countries and in 22 different languages. One thing about The Sims it is an almost perfect social parody of art immitating life, and with that in mind I’ll leave you with a quote from the official press release.

If the games were buried in a time capsule, when unearthed in 100 years, The Sims would give future generations an instant understanding of how people lived between 2000 – 2010.

On behalf of the DualShockers Team, I’d like to wish The Sims a Happy 10th Birthday! They’ve earned it!

Def Jam Rapstar Info and Trailer

I have been wanting a game like Def Jam Rapstar for a long time, yes we have Rock Band and Guitar Hero which every once in a while throw a Public Enemy song our way, but it never caters to the hip-hop enthusiast. Def Jam Rapstar is for the true hip-hop fan, a game that has you spitting lyrics like Kanye and does not allow for you to hum along with the song. Not much is known about the track list just yet, but “Put On” from Young Jeezy and “Gold-digger” by Kanye West are confirmed.

Def Jam Rapstar is beyond just a karaoke game, it is a full experience where you can make a video of your performance, edit it and upload for the community to see. You can also battle friends to see who is the top spitter in your crew.

This title is for the true hip hop head and is boasting songs that will be “Bridging the Gap”:

Golden Age. Platinum Age. Old School. New School. Veteran. Rookie. Def Jam Rapstar has the hits no matter what style you represent.

DJ Hero look out, there is a new kid headed to the hip-hop block and he looks serious. So far it is still scheduled for a winter release and there is definitely DLC to come after as well.

Check out the newly launched official Def Jam Rapstar site here.

Hotel Giant 2 in January 2010

Southpeak Games, along with Nobilis Games announced that Hotel Giant 2 will be hitting PCs in January of 2010.  Eager hotel owner wannabes will be thrown into strange and unusual situations with 1 thing on their mind, guests’ happiness.   However, owners will not just have to worry about guests, but employee payroll, hotel budget, and hostage negotiation as well. Well, not the hostage negotiation part but that could be an interesting add-on. To make sure hotel budget and guest satisfaction  are met, players will have access to many options, from in-room amenities to what kind of tile goes in the bathroom. So make sure to put on your commerce caps!

Mega Man 10 – Now With More Sheep

Mega Man 10 is officially announced for WiiWare. Pause… Take that in…

Ok what we do know is that there are three playable characters Mega Man, Proto Man and one mystery character yet to be named. There is also one confirmed robot master that goes by the name of Sheep Man that looks like a ball of wool but can turn into four clouds and zap your ass from up above. Also confirmed is the plot of the game, you are on a quest to save the robots of the world from a virus known as Robotenza, think Swine Flu for robots and you need to find a vaccine.

Expect more classic 8-bit-style Mega Man action and a level of difficulty that will make you tear your hair out.
I am excited to see more Mega Man, seeing as it is the blue crusaders 22nd birthday December 17th it is great to hear these kinds of announcements. The only thing I can hope for is a Meg Man movie or MMO, come on Capcom make my dreams come true.
