Views: 104StarCraft II Breaks 3 Million Sales
It was no question that Blizzard was going to hit it big with StarCraft II, especially when the competition revealed itself as very weak in the Real-Time Strategy genre. It seemed like long-time respected RTS franchises simply got out of StarCraft II’s way and wanted to have no part in competing with this behemoth of a title. When it finally arrived the world knew why. The most entertaining and highest selling PC game of the year thus far, and possibly the best RTS for the next decade, has just passed 3 million sales in it’s first month.
This sequel to the 1998 title remains focused on strategy arguably more than any other title out there and has introduced the improved Battle.net system among other innovations. How far will the momentum behind this title take Blizzard? Only time will tell, for now things are looking great with no end in sight.

Views: 130New Aion Expansion Fly-Through – Gelkmaros
Last week we brought you the fly-through trailer for a zone on the Elyos side of things, from the upcoming Aion expansion, Assault on Balaurea. This week NCSoft is back with another trailer along those same lines. This time, however, it is showing off a predominently Asmodian zone, Gelkmaros. So, for those of you who like the arguably darker and lesser-played side of things, you might want to hit the jump to check out this week’s fly-through video.
Aion: Assault on Balaurea releases in just one week, on September 7, 2010. It’s a pretty sweet MMO, from my time with it, at least. In a way I want to go back, but I don’t have the heart to give up WoW….

Views: 192Big Fish Games to Release Drawn: Dark Flight
Big Fish Games, previously known for their releases of casual games such as the Mystery Case Files series, recently announced a sequel to last year’s Drawn: The Painted Tower. This second installment, Drawn: Dark Flight, will continue its predecessor’s storyline and puzzle/adventure genre. It will include several complex yet not impossible puzzles, as well as intricate and impressive artwork.
While Dark Flight is, after all, a casual game, it will still attempt to appeal to more hardcore gamers through its unique genre and high level of detail. And even serious gamers such as myself find casual games fun and addicting.
Drawn: Dark Flight will be released for PC on August 31 and cost $9.99 for the regular version or $19.99 for the collector’s edition, which will include two extra hours of gameplay.
Views: 170Civilization V Demo Arrives Same Day as the Retail Version
In an unfortunate twist of fate, Firaxis has announced that the demo for Civilization V will not be available before the release of the actual retail game on September 21, 2010. This is contrary to a previous statement they made to the effect that the demo will be available before the game actually releases.
This is unfortunate, because the reason for a demo, at least in my mind, is to see if a person will like a game before buying it. While you can still do that, it diminishes the launch-day excitement when you have to download a demo first. I even know of a case where a friend of mine wants the game but doesn’t know if it will run amicably on his computer. When I told him about a pre-launch demo he was ecstatic, because it would give him a chance to see if it runs fine, with time left to pre-order if he wanted the extra bonuses.
Not anymore, apparently. This is disappointing. Here’s part of Firaxis’ statement on the matter:
“The question many of you are probably asking now is “didn’t you say it would be available before the release date?” The answer to that question is yes, I did. At the time of that announcement, we expected to be able to get the demo out before the 21st, but unfortunately we weren’t able to finalize it in the timeframe we had initially planned, and for that we’re very sorry.”
They also mention that, given the demo releases on the same day as the retail product, that you still have time to try it out and run out and buy it (or purchase online via Steam). Yet, they fail to mention that this negates the ability to pre-order. I don’t like this, but I will be buying the game regardless.
Views: 122Final Fantasy XIV NA Pre-release Trailer & Theme Song
Final Fantasy XIV comes out in about a month, and today Square-Enix released a pretty lengthy trailer for the title. Along with the awesomely gorgeous cut scenes, they’ve thrown in a few shots of actual game play, as well as the first time the English theme song has been heard. The theme song – “Answers” – is performed by award-winning singer Susan Calloway. She apparently fell into the good graces of Nobuo Uematsu, who is the musical composer for the game (and for many past Final Fantasy titles), appearing with him on the “Distant World” tours.
Of special note is that, if you purchase the collector’s edition of the game, which itself got its own trailer a couple days ago, you’ll be able to get early access to play, starting September 22, 2010. Final Fantasy XIV officially releases for the PC only on September 30, 2010, with a PlayStation 3 releases coming up in the early part of next year. Hit the jump to check out the trailer. Your eyes will thank you.

Aion: Assault on Balaurea New Zone Fly-Through Trailer
Today NCSoft released a new trailer of their upcoming Assault on Balaurea expansion for Aion, where they are nice enough to do a fly-through of one of the new zones, Inggison. This zone is outside of Atreia, where the entire game takes place up until this point. In fact, the lands of Atreia are on the interior of the planet. Inggison, however, is on the exterior, so we’ll see all sorts of different wildlife, monsters and all sorts of nifty things. Perhaps it’ll be like the difference between Azeroth and Outland, right? Oh, wait, sorry…I brought World of Warcraft into this post, my bad.
Hit the jump to check out the fly-through trailer. Assault on Balaurea is set to release on September 7, 2010, so just a couple short weeks from now.
Worms is a series that has been loved by its fans ever since the day of its inception. The classic formula of 2D destructible environments, humorous and offbeat voice-over tracks, and turn-based strategy mixed with live action carnage has since become a staple to the franchise. I still remember my first encounter with Worms which began with Worms: Armageddon on the Sega DreamCast in a four man, pass-the-controller multi-player match which had me cracking up laughing and at the same time fascinated and hypnotized by the coolness of what I was seeing. Something seemingly simplistic as a 2D title like this rarely turns out to have the sheer depth and replay value that the game has attained, and after this experience with my friends I sought after every Worms game I could get my hands on from that day forth, I even went back and played the older titles and became hooked.
But make no mistake I am very critical of my games, especially the ones that are my favorites. As you may have heard my opinions in the past you will know that I’m pretty rough when things change for the worse. That’s why it was great to see Worms release on the XBLA/PSN and Worms 2: Armageddon which have brought back the 2D style of the game after some less than favored titles in 3D which I actually enjoyed on the PlayStation 2 but were nowhere near the caliber of Team17’s other Worms entries. When I cranked up Worms Reloaded I had mixed feelings, the expectations were high and the skepticism was on full blast, I needed this game to blow me away since I’ve already been there done that with the awesome but aging 2D Worms format. I happily found that the game was better and better the more I played it, and now I am hooked.
