The monthly NPD reports for June came out yesterday and once again, Sony's God of War found its way near the top of the software sales chart finishing in second only behind Mario Tennis Aces.

We've known for quite some time that God of War was selling quite well for Sony as the publisher confirmed mere days after release earlier this year that Kratos' return was the fastest-selling exclusive for PS4. In light of new information though, it now seems that God of War's impressive sales could be more historic for PlayStation as a whole.

Speaking to IGN after the June report came out yesterday, the NPD Group's Mat Piscatella went on to say that God of War isn't just the fastest-selling exclusive on the PS4, but is instead now the fast-selling in the history of PlayStation according to their numbers. Tracking for these statistics began back in 1995 and the previously held title of fastest-selling for PlayStation was held by The Last of Us when it launched on PS3 back in 2013.  "I currently project God of War finishing 2018 as the 8th best-selling game in the U.S. market, but a few more months of performance like this and I may have to raise those expectations," Piscatella added.

If this is indeed true, then God of War's sales numbers are downright more remarkable than we originally perceived. It'll be interesting to see how Marvel's Spider-Man fares when it launches exclusively on PS4 next month as the notoriety of one of fiction's most famous characters will surely benefit sales.

Whether or not Marvel's Spider-Man will do better numbers in the long-haul remains to be seen, but one thing's for sure: Sony sure seems to be doing well for themselves in 2018.
